A typical training day will begin at 9 a.m. at an off-site meeting point, close to the farm and with car parking facilities for your vehicle.
From here, we will load your firearm(s) and any additional equipment for the short journey to the various shooting locations, stopping for refreshments or services en route, if you wish. Using a selection of reactive targets of differing sizes, we usually start with some warm up shooting on a range at 50-100 metres with a .22 rimfire (if you do not have one, it will be provided). This is a great way to focus on your technique and an opportunity for some fun, without the expense of centrefire ammunition.
Following this, we will then move on to working with your own rifle. This section of the course addresses your specific needs and is tailored to those skillsets you wish to develop and explore. This might involve shooting from sticks, improvised rests, or a tripod; or even using a sling for shots at 200-300 metres. It's really up to you!
Next, we stop for something to eat. Note, although you will be asked to bring your own packed lunch, coffee, tea, and biscuits will be available.
During the afternoon, we will ordinarily try to extend ranges out to around 800 metres, practicing long distance shooting with steel targets. This is the ideal time to cover some more complex subjects, such as wind readings, ballistics, rangefinding, understanding Moa / mills, dialling a riflescope, using holdovers, and more. At 5 p.m., our day concludes and you will be taken back to your vehicle at the meeting point.
Remember, we shoot exactly as we would hunt; which means if it's wet weather, you are going to get wet! So be sure to dress appropriately. Other than that, all you will need is your lunch, a sporting calibre rifle, ammunition, and credentials.
